What will FGCU Be Known For?

Scandals happen at every university, but I guess that is normal when it is over 20 years old. For younger universities, they should be dealing with issues of what restaurant to put on campus, are the professors’ salaries going to increase and what are our future plans for construction. Over the last three years at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), I have read scandal after scandal in the local newspapers. After reading an article in the News-Press January 22,2008 about FGCU firing the head volleyball coach Jaye Flood because she showed "an interest in an amorous relationship" with a student team manager, I got thinking about what will FGCU be known for. Does being an environmental university that offers an array of degrees is what it will be known for or is it going to known as the university where Ex-President Merwin resigned after admitting to an affair with a staff member and softball coach Gina Ramacci being fired after the university investigated an inappropriate relationship with a student? Florida Gulf Cost University is young and has many more years to grow and it is my hope that they will not continue to have a scandal a year.

You are right. I'm ashamed to admit this but I didn't even know we were an environnmentally conscious university until I had to take that dreadful class my Junior year.
